Fakebook is a tool from Classtools.net which allows users to create unreal Facebook profiles. Fakebook is an awesome tool to use with students in class. For instance, you can use it to “chart the plot of a book, the life of a character, a series of historical events, the debates and relationships between people, and so on!”

Fakebook resembles Facebook except that it is not real. Students can create imaginary profiles the same way they would normally do on Facebook and the best thing of all is that they do not need to provide email addresses or register.

Fakebook is web-base meaning no software download is required. Simply head over to Fakebook main page and start typing in your information. Provide a name, upload a profile picture, and provide some personal information such as date and place of birth, work, etc. In the Friends section you can add as many friends as you want. You can upload their pictures and type in their names. Click on Add New Block to add more friends.

In the Post section you can write your post, add hyperlinks to videos from YouTube or Vimeo and upload images. You can also specify the name of the author and date of publication and when your post is ready click on Post. Fakebook also enables you to save your template to edit it later. You need to create at least three posts in order to be able to save your Fakebook template.

Use the search button at the top menu to search the archive of Fakebooks for inspiration. You can filter your search by category such as Art and Design, Chemistry, History, Literature and Language, Music and Musicians, Physics and Mathematics, Religion, Sports and Leisure, War and Warfare, Politics and Government, and many more.

For instance, the last time I checked the History category I found Fakebook profiles of notable historical figures such as Louis XIV, Theodore Roosevelt, Virginia Wolf, Nicholas Copernicus, William Blake Oscar Wilde, Mona Lisa, Francis Bacon, Adam Smith, Isaac newton, Max Weber, among several others.

Once your Fakebook template is complete click to save and share your Fakebook template with others using a unique URL.  You need to provide a password for your Template so that can get back to it and edit it the way you want.
