Vision Pro Deliveries Are Backordered Into March But In-store Availability Remains

By |January 29, 2024|

Within 24 hours of Vision Pro pre-orders starting earlier this month, home delivery dates were pushed back from launch day into March. But curiously, orders for in-store pickups are still available within a week of launch day at many stores.

Apple Vision Pro pre-orders opened on January 19th, and many woke up bright and early to get into the pre-order line. Those who were quick to the draw secured a home delivery date of February 2nd—the headset’s official launch date. But it wasn’t long before delivery estimates started to drift.

First it was back into mid-to-late February, then all the […]

Scalped Vision Pro Pre-orders Have Sold for $6,000, But Justice May Yet Prevail

By |January 27, 2024|

A number of scalped Apple Vision Pro pre-orders have sold on eBay for upwards of $6,000.

When you just gotta have it, I guess money is no object for some.

When Vision Pro pre-orders opened up on January 19th, the delivery dates for online orders quickly pushed back all the way into March. However, in-store pre-orders are still expected within the first few days of release at many stores.

Some of that demand appears to have been from scalpers who pre-ordered the headset with the goal of reselling their pre-ordered unit for even more money on Ebay.

There are presently more than […]

Microsoft Teams Now Supports 3D & VR Meetings, Releases ‘Mesh’ App on Main Quest Store

By |January 27, 2024|

Microsoft Teams now lets you hold meetings in 3D and VR, as its immersive chatting platform Microsoft Mesh has now come out of preview.

Microsoft announced Mesh back in early 2021, essentially acting as the company’s foundation for building multi-user XR applications and letting cross-platform users connect in a virtual environment. It’s a bit like the now-defunct social VR platform Altspace VR, which Microsoft shutdown last year, albeit built exclusively for business.

Now Mesh’s immersive meetings have been integrated into Teams, which means you can schedule and join VR meetings directly from your calendar. This […]

Netflix CEO on Vision Pro App Snub: “not particularly relevant to our members”

By |January 26, 2024|

Vision Pro is nearly here, but Netflix, YouTube and Spotify won’t have their respective apps on the headset’s app storefront. Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters explains why.

Speaking to Stratechery, Peters says Vision Pro is “not really particularly relevant to most [Netflix] members.” Here’s the portion of the statement where Peters explains his reasoning:

“We have to be careful about making sure that we’re not investing in places that are not really yielding a return, and I would say we’ll see where things go with Vision Pro. Certainly we’re always in discussions with Apple to try and […]

New Reality Labs Research Project Demonstrates Mind-bending AR Capabilities

By |January 26, 2024|

A project from researchers at Reality Labs, Meta’s XR division, shows a method for interacting with the real-world through augmented reality.

I’m about as seasoned as they get when it comes to the XR space. I see research papers all the time that are interesting but ultimately one more step along a predictable path. It’s rare that I come upon something that I’d never even conceptually considered. But this new Reality Labs research project is exactly that.

In fact, it’s so different that it’s kind of hard to explain.

Researchers at Meta Reality Labs Research and University of Duisburg-Essen devised a method […]

‘Rec Room’ Has No Plans to Support PSVR 2

By |January 25, 2024|

Rec Room is one of the leading social VR platforms, supporting every major console, mobile device, and VR headset—except PlayStation VR 2, that is. And it’s very likely going to stay that way.

In a Reddit AMA earlier this month, Rec Room co-founder Cameron Brown (aka ‘Gribbly’) answered a few burning questions, including a big one that’s been on the minds of PSVR 2 owners since the headset launched early last year. When will Rec Room come to PSVR 2?

Well, the news isn’t good, as Rec Room has “no current plans” to support Sony’s latest VR headset. Here’s Brown’s […]

Meta is Working on an Airplane Travel Mode for Quest

By |January 25, 2024|

Airplanes seem like an ideal place to dive into VR, as you can switch out the cramped environment of the cabin for a giant movie theater, or whittle away the hours browsing the web on a massive screensomething that shouldn’t bother your seat mates too much. Although Quest’s tracking is one of the most reliable out there, it still has trouble in moving vehicles like airplanes and cars. Meta is apparently working to fix that.

For anyone who’s tried to use Quest on an airplane, it’s basically only usable when you’ve reached a consistent altitude and direction. When you’re […]

‘Ghosts of Tabor’ Earned $10M Before Even Reaching the Main Quest Store

By |January 24, 2024|

Ghosts of Tabor, the VR extraction shooter in early access, is coming to the main Quest Store next month. It’s been such a hit that it’s managed to amass over $10 million during its time on Quest App Lab and Steam Early Access.

Beyond Frames Entertainment and Combat Waffle Studios announced Ghosts of Tabor is coming to the main Quest Store on February 8th. It’s still going to be in Early Access on Steam for the time being, however the studios say it’s also going to get released on PSVR 2 and Pico headsets at some point later this year.

By |January 24, 2024|

Resolution Games, developers behind VR tabletop game Demeo (2021), announced it’s working with Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast to create a VR game set in the Dungeons & Dragons universe.

We don’t know much about the game for now—including release date, name, or specific VR platforms—however Resolution Games tells Road to VR it should interest “anyone in the world of digital tabletop games.”

Rightfully so, as the studio is known for creating the D&D-inspired tabletop adventure Demeo, which allows for both VR and non-VR players to take on increasingly difficult dungeons as a party of up to four players, filling […]

Quest Massively Outsold PSVR 2 on Amazon Over the Holiday Season

By |January 24, 2024|

Judging by sales volume on Amazon, Quest 2 & Quest 3 massively outsold PSVR 2 during the 2023 holiday season.

Tracking Quest 2, Quest 3, and PSVR 2 sales volume on Amazon US gives strong evidence that Quest headsets did quite well this holiday season, while PSVR 2 saw concerningly low sales. Looking at the numbers over the course of the holiday season shows that for every 1 unit of PSVR 2 sold, Quest sold more than 30 units.

The data compares all capacity variants of Quest 2 & Quest 3 against the standard PSVR 2 retail box and […]
