Meta announced it’s discontinuing Horizon Workrooms next month, its productivity-focused VR platform, marking another step in the company’s ongoing restructuring of its VR and metaverse strategy.
Originally launched in 2021 on Quest 2, Workrooms was not only the company’s answer to remote work following the COVID-19 pandemic, but also a first big push to make the Quest platform into a productivity device.

‘Batman: Arkham VR’ Sequel Cancelled Amid Meta XR Studio Closures


Meta’s recent rash of studio closures means that the planned sequel to Batman: Arkham Shadow has also officially been cancelled.
Batman: Arkham Shadow (2024) was developed by Camouflaj, released exclusively on Quest 3 in late 2024, coming just one week after the launch of Meta’s $300 Quest 3S.

Meta Reportedly Closes Three First-party Studios Behind Some of Its Biggest VR Games


Against the backdrop of a broader shuffling of its Reality Labs division, Meta is reportedly closing Armature Studio, Twisted Pixel, and Sanzaru Games, three studios that Meta had previously acquired. XREAL, the Beijing-based AR glasses maker, announced it has raised $100 million in a recent funding round.

Panasonic Ends Collaboration with Shiftall on MeganeX Series VR Headsets


Shiftall, the Japan-based VR hardware startup, is no longer working with Panasonic on its MeganeX series of thin and light PC VR headsets.
Initially acquired by Panasonic in 2018, Shiftall developed a number of devices as the company’s ad hoc internal skunk works, including the first MeganeX PC VR headset, HaritoraX wireless body trackers, FlipVR motion controllers, and mutalk soundproof microphones.
While Panasonic sold off Shiftall in early 2024, the companies continued to collaborate on the MeganeX headset series.
